“Why are we doing this? I just want you to tell me what to do and be done with it!” shouted a client in exasperation.
This comment came during a consulting session with a super successful woman solo-entrepreneur. She currently has a limited web presence and wants to move her products and services online. We had been reviewing a number of internet marketing options like blogging, article marketing, video marketing etc. as part of the discussion.
She continued on by saying her head was swimming and she did not want to know this technical stuff…just tell her what to do!
As women entrepreneurs our businesses often spring into life as the result of a personal idea, cause, passion or a desire for a better way. Our businesses literally become an extension of who we are and our lives; making business ownership a much more personal experience.
And the same is true of today’s websites and blogs. The LIVE world of Web 2.0 gives us the opportunity to literally create a living breathing extension of ourselves. It moves your website from a static, brochure like experience…to an interactive experience of you and your business!
If you’re an entrepreneur…it’s personal!
When my client calmed down, I told her that her web/blog site will become her new best friend forever. It will be a place that she visits and works with on a very regular and consistent basis. She will look forward to working with her site to nurture it’s development.
And just like the special click that happens when you make a new friend, the key to success in online marketing is clicking with the tools and techniques that work best for you!
“I’m still not getting this…what does this mean”, she asked.
Internet marketing success starts with the word EASE. For women entrepreneurs it’s especially important to choose an internet marketing approach that most closely resonates with your unique skills, talents and attitude. When you are emotionally in alignment with the method that you choose, it becomes easy to build and nurture your site. It is something that you look forward to; just like meeting your BFF for lunch!
I told my client that we were stepping thru the options first, for her to begin to understand what they are. And then secondly so she could figure out what resonates with her, what option makes her tingle with excitement and anticipation.
“Oh…so you mean the fact that writing comes easy to me, makes blogging or writing articles something that I should consider?” Exactly!
“Well what about the fact that people really respond to my 30 second elevator speech…does that mean I should do videos?”
Well that’s the next key to success. As entrepreneurs we are often doing a lot of this stuff ourselves. So it depends on your comfort level with the technology that’s involved or the amount of money you want to spend to have other people do the work.
The bottom line is that as entrepreneurs, what you create to support your internet marketing efforts is personal. And for women entrepreneurs, making choices that are in emotional alignment with our skills, attitudes and time is what makes your site sing… cha-ching!
