Tweet-Tweet…Do You Twitter?

When I first heard about the latest social networking tool “Twitter”…I have to admit I was not “ahhhhhTwitter” with excitement.  In fact it was quite the opposite, I was what you might call “aghasTwitter”.  I mean who has time to read all the little ‘tweets” that people were sending about what they were doing that minute.  I thought “I will never be a tweeter”!

That is until I signed up for a mini conference on the latest business uses of social networking.  In one of the sessions, a presenter started talking about Twitter.  Now if the full agenda would have been published, I probably would have hit the ‘mute” button for this portion of the program.  But, caught by surprise, I decided to listen a bit…and I have to admit that I’m glad I did.

The speaker caught my attention when she started talking about how she uses Twitter to keep in touch with her coaching clients. It’s a simple solution that let’s her both be available and also coach as they see what she is doing via her Twitter posts.  Hmmm…my interest was peeked, because I could now see an application that made business sense.

Fast forward to late evening of the same day.  I sat down to read the Investor’s Business Daily (IBD) and what headline screams out at me on page 3… “Firms A-Twitter Over Microblog Service”!  Twitter in IBD???  What is going on?  As I read the article, I was ahhhhTwitter to learn how companies like Dell, Comcast and JetBlue  are using Twitter to improve their customer service!  Amazing.

I became a believer, when John Reese (an Internet Marketing superstar) sent out a preview video of his new product called “Web 2.0 Traffic”.  One of the tips he gave in the preview had to do with…yep you guessed it “Twitter”!

So, do you Twitter?  If not, I hope this article gives you some great ideas for how Twitter may be of value to your business.  I am not a fan of just doing something because everyone else is…but if it makes sense there’s a great saying that sums up the value of increased customer loyalty “Birds of a Feather Stick Together”.  More later…till then Happy Twittering!
