During summer vacations, most kids think about going swimming, sleeping in late, staying up late, talking on the phone, hanging out with friends etc. Not me…nope I dreamt about only one thing…reading. Yep, when that last school bell sounded for the summer, all I could think about was daily trips to the library and how many books could I read that summer!
In fact, I defined a great summer by the number of library checkout cards that I could fill up. This was “back in the day” before there were bar codes and computers. To check out a book, I presented my dog-eared paper library card, and then the librarian, would hand write the number of the book and stamp the return date on my library card as well as the card in the book. My goal was to go through as many library cards as I could every summer.
And although today’s definition of the word “geek” did not really exist at that time, my friends all called me names that were the then equivalent of “geek”…book worm, weirdo, smarty pants, brain etc. I loved reading and learning and that obsession continues today.
So this column will be devoted to reviews of books that help us learn and understand how to use the marketing tools of the internet and social media (and whatever is next!) to grow our business. I read many books every year, but I promise you I will only review those that I find easy to read, understand and that are relevant.
